Anyone know where to get fonts that try to recreate ancient or medieval styles of handwriting used in MSS?

MSS generally stands for manuscripts.

http://www.historian.net/files.htm — has latin MSS fonts by period. You'll likely find yours there. Free, voluntary donations accepted.

Paleographic fonts at http://paleography.atspace.com/ — probably not what you are looking for, but just in case. Free.

These all are for Windows. Mac fonts are noted to be lacking.

Unfortunately, I have not yet found an Old Roman (aka majuscule) cursive font. If anyone can point me to one, I'd appreciate that.

The single best source (they're not free, but they're spectacular) is the work of Prof. Juan-José Marcos of the Classics dept. of Plasencia, Spain.

Thanks, everyone! I didn't expect to get nearly so many responses! I'll sift through them. I thought it might be fun to have a specifically Latin font for my Latin prose comp. homework.

To my mind some of these looked more like 21st century imitations of gothic, and more like a T-shirt from Camden market, than the real thing. Real 'gothic' manuscripts are of great beauty and difficult to imitate (I am trying this at the moment without much success).

However this site

http://www.historian.net/files.htm

looked better than the others, and the guy has clearly spent a lot of time and care.

Another difficulty of reproducing it is that some of the symbols just don't exist in modern writing. See e.g. a (beautiful) page from the Schoenberg collection here
