Does anyone happen to know if there exists somewhere a list of all the published translations of Vergil's Aeneid that have been made into English? I suspect there must be one. It's not proving easy to find, though, especially when every book on Vergil seems to be out of the university library (gr). I wondered whether Gransden's Virgil in English Penguin volume might have a list, but that too is of course out of the library.

vobis gratias ago.

Hi! In the French version of the wikipedia Aeneid, there is a list of the French published translations. So I looked in the English one but It isn't the same organisation...
Perhaps the mysite.verizon could help you.

May not be much help, but I've used three over the years: Dryden's, which has to be purely for fun; the 1952 C Day Lewis one, which has dated strangely in parts because of the English he uses, and David West's 1990 translation which, I think, is excellent. The latter two may be the most common versions.

I have a David McKay Co. 1952 version. It's interlinear translation (needed for some of us thick-heads who are trying to remember latin classes from way in the back when...)
